Bashir Bilour, senior minister of Pakistan’s North-West Frontier Province NWFP, has confirmed the presence of Blackwater security guards.
“Yes, Blackwater is responsible for providing security to the international non-governmental organisations and the US embassy staff in the province,” he said.
He then doubled his confirmation by amending his statement to a “Blackwater-type US contractor,” athough there’s no reason why both realities can’t be true. The US government could hire Blackwater while it still operates independently for other contractors, providing a “legal” entrance for them. Washington could also hire non-Blackwater PMC's.
The possibilities are unlimited.
Bilour said that, “law and order situation in the country is poor and the security arrangements are not satisfactory, therefore, foreign companies that are doing work in the province have hired foreign guards who are working in their limits.”
Thus Blackwater's operations extend across the country, from Peshawar and Islamabad to Karachi and Quetta, under a constant blanket of denial and retraction. And US officials wonder why Pakistanis are anti-American.
