Rainy Days

After months of debate, speculation, analysis, research, calculations, dissension, and thorough deliberation, General McChrystal's official request of 40,000 US troops is the same today as it was in July. Note "the minimum necessary to prevail" clause, essentially the cheapest, most uncertain route. General McChrystal would probably like the 50,000-60,000 troops Octopus Mountain calculated. The NYT actually cites 60,000 and even beyond as two of McChrystal's options.

Play time is almost over. A storm approaches.

On the bright side, President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize without delivering any peace and in the process of escalating a war. Forget Morgan Tsvangirai, who has long fought the good fight while suffering multiple assassination attempts and without help from the West. What an amusing upside-down world.
