COIN 101

Earlier today Afghan villagers brought the corpses of three boys and a man to the Kandahar governor, claiming America had killed them in an air-strike. As the angry villagers from Kowuk shouted “Death to America! Death to infidels!" the U.S. military released a statement claiming it had killed four insurgents on motorcycles in the area, with no reports of civilian casualties.

Later that night, district police chief Niaz Mohammad Sarhadi claims an American air-strike killed five farmers in the Zhari district near Kandahar while they were loading cucumbers onto their cart. Army spokeswoman Christine Sidenstricker responded, "Our information is that they were loading munitions, not cucumbers."

Behold guerrilla warfare.
