The Western media, on the other hand, is already done with COIN - it has always been too complex for the U.S. mainstream. Both coverups are bogus, and it's truly unfortunate that the real lessons of COIN have been sidelined again. The Obama administration can say whatever it wants about supporting universal rights and democracy, but the essence of COIN is to avoid antagonizing populations.

Another of COIN's fundamentals starts at the beginning of an insurgency, and America has botched the beginnings of many long wars: Vietnam, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq and now Yemen. I still believe that COIN can work in Yemen too - Yemenis want a real friendship with America - but the Obama administration is flying in the opposite direction.James Gundunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16141055666432969361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1571201204115952544.post-15748292385281667532013-01-08T02:45:48.639-08:002013-01-08T02:45:48.639-08:00I am reading, and seeing, that COIN appears to hav...I am reading, and seeing, that COIN appears to have been abandoned by the Pentagon. Is this true? If so, it might have been worth actually trying it out before jettisoning it.TONY @oakroydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08304486783392151133noreply@blogger.com
